Damage to the eleventh cranial nerve (spinal accessory nerve), which controls the trapezius and sternocleidomastoid muscles. Causes shoulder droop, difficulty raising your arm above your head, and trouble turning your head. Often results from neck surgery, trauma, or tumors.
The VA rates this condition based on how much it affects your ability to work and carry out daily activities. The examiner will focus on the functional limitations your condition causes, not just the diagnosis itself.
