Acceptance of Terms

#

Using Legatus means you accept this agreement and the privacy policy.

By creating an account or using any part of the Legatus platform (“Service”), you agree to these Terms of Service (“Terms”) and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

Description of Service

#

We build the tools; you file the claim. Legatus is not VA-accredited and never contacts the VA for you — an accredited VSO will file for you free.

Legatus provides educational tools and informational resources to help veterans research, organize, and understand VA disability claims. Features include AI-powered educational analysis tools, evidence organization, condition guides, and document checklists.

Legatus is a self-help tool. You prepare and file your own claim. Legatus is not accredited by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and does not prepare, present, or prosecute claims on your behalf, complete or submit VA forms for you, or communicate with the VA about your claim. All decisions about what to claim, what evidence to submit, and when to file are yours alone. Free claim preparation and filing assistance is available from VA-accredited Veterans Service Organizations.

Not Legal or Medical Advice

#

Everything here is educational. Appeal-lane and filing decisions can be irreversible — take them to an accredited rep first.

The Service does not provide legal advice, medical advice, or representation before the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. All content, including AI-generated analysis, appeal lane information, nexus letter evaluations, buddy statement drafts, and hearing practice simulations, is for general educational and informational purposes only.

The Service is not a substitute for consultation with an accredited Veterans Service Organization (VSO), VA-accredited claims agent, VA-accredited attorney, or licensed medical professional. You should consult an accredited representative before making decisions about your VA claim, including selecting an appeal lane, submitting evidence, or filing any claim or appeal.

Appeal lane selection, evidence submission, and claim filing decisions have significant, potentially irreversible consequences for your deadlines and legal rights. Legatus is not responsible for the outcome of any VA claim, appeal, or decision.

AI-Generated Content

#

AI output is a first draft you have to check. Buddy statements are sworn — the signer must attest from their own knowledge.

Certain features use third-party AI services (Anthropic for generation, OpenAI for semantic search, and Langfuse for observability) to produce content. AI-generated content may be inaccurate, incomplete, or outdated. You are solely responsible for reviewing, verifying, and deciding whether to use any AI-generated output.

Buddy statements generated by the Service are drafts that must be reviewed and verified by the person who will sign the statement. Buddy statements submitted to the VA are sworn statements. The signer must attest to the accuracy of the statement from their own personal observation and knowledge. Do not submit a statement that does not reflect the signer’s actual first-hand knowledge.

We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, revocable license to use AI-generated content solely for your personal VA claim preparation. You may not resell, redistribute, or commercially exploit AI-generated content.
