A serious blood disorder where your bone marrow stops making enough new blood cells, causing low red blood cells (anemia), low white blood cells (increased infection risk), and low platelets (bleeding risk). Acquired aplastic anemia can be triggered by chemical exposures, radiation, medications, or infections during military service. The VA rates this condition based on how often you need transfusions and how well you respond to treatment.
The VA rates this condition based on the type and intensity of treatment you require. Higher ratings correspond to more aggressive treatment regimens, such as daily medication, insulin dependence, or the need for ongoing medical management.
