An immune reaction to beryllium dust or fumes from military work with metals, nuclear weapons, or aerospace equipment. A positive blood test (BeLPT) shows your body reacts to beryllium. It can progress to chronic beryllium disease with lung scarring. The VA rates it based on whether you have just sensitization or active lung disease.
The VA rates this condition based on objective clinical measurements and test results. The examiner will use standardized tests or lab values to determine the severity of your condition rather than relying primarily on subjective symptom reports.
