Understand what the VA looks for at each rating level — loading conditions…
A chronic pain condition caused by damage to the central nervous system from a stroke, traumatic brain injury, or spinal cord injury. The brain processes pain signals incorrectly, causing constant burning, aching, or stabbing pain that does not respond well to standard pain medications. The VA rates it by analogy to TBI residuals based on how much the pain affects your ability to think, work, and function.
The VA rates this condition based on how much it affects your ability to work and carry out daily activities. The examiner will focus on the functional limitations your condition causes, not just the diagnosis itself.
