Understand what the VA looks for at each rating level — loading conditions…
A condition where fluid builds up around the heart in the pericardial sac. This can put pressure on the heart and make it harder to pump blood. The VA rates chronic pericardial effusion based on your heart workload capacity, whether you need ongoing treatment, and whether you have heart failure.
The VA rates this condition based on how much it affects your ability to work and carry out daily activities. The examiner will focus on the functional limitations your condition causes, not just the diagnosis itself.
