A condition causing sudden, severe, stabbing pain in the back of the throat, tongue, ear, or tonsil area. Pain attacks are triggered by swallowing, talking, coughing, or yawning. Similar to trigeminal neuralgia but affects a different nerve.
The VA rates this condition based on how often symptoms occur and how severe each episode is. The examiner will ask about the frequency, duration, and intensity of your episodes, as well as how they affect your ability to work.
