Damage to the ilio-inguinal nerve, which provides sensation to the groin, inner thigh, and parts of the genitalia. This nerve is commonly injured during hernia repair surgery or by lower abdominal wounds. Injury causes numbness, burning, or pain in the groin and genital area. This is a sensory nerve with limited ratings and no major/minor distinction.
The VA rates this condition based on how much it affects your ability to work and carry out daily activities. The examiner will focus on the functional limitations your condition causes, not just the diagnosis itself.
