Ongoing heart rhythm problems or other residuals after a procedure to fix supraventricular tachycardia (a fast heartbeat from the upper chambers of the heart). The VA rates SVT ablation residuals based on whether you still have episodes and how often they occur.

The VA rates this condition based on how often symptoms occur and how severe each episode is. The examiner will ask about the frequency, duration, and intensity of your episodes, as well as how they affect your ability to work.

Rating Levels

Your residual arrhythmia is frequent and significantly limits your daily activities. You have had more than one episode requiring medical intervention in the past year, or your workload capacity is greater than 3 METs but not greater than 5 METs.

Common Pitfalls

⚠Not getting post-ablation Holter monitoring — even after a "successful" ablation, you may still have arrhythmia episodes. A Holter monitor worn for 24-48 hours can document residual episodes the VA needs for rating.
⚠Not documenting recurrent symptoms after ablation — palpitations, dizziness, and exercise intolerance after the procedure should be reported at every medical visit and recorded in your chart.
⚠Not keeping the original ablation operative report and pre-ablation diagnostic workup — these records establish the in-service condition and are essential for service connection.
⚠Not filing for secondary conditions from ablation — complications like vascular access injury, pericardial effusion, or new arrhythmias from the procedure itself may warrant separate ratings.
