Testicular Conditions (Atrophy / Removal)

Conditions involving the loss or atrophy of one or both testes. The VA rates testicular conditions based on whether one or both testes are affected and whether complications require hormone replacement. Veterans are entitled to Special Monthly Compensation (SMC-K) for loss of a creative organ.

Rating Levels

Both testes have been removed or have complete atrophy, and you have complications requiring hormone replacement therapy.

What the VA looks for

Bilateral testicular loss documented
Testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) ongoing
Complications documented (osteoporosis, fatigue, mood changes)
Regular endocrinology follow-up
Lab work showing hormone levels

Common Pitfalls

⚠Not filing for Special Monthly Compensation (SMC-K) for loss of a creative organ — this is a separate monthly payment on top of your disability rating and is often overlooked.
⚠Not documenting all secondary conditions from testosterone deficiency — fatigue, depression, osteoporosis, erectile dysfunction, and weight gain may each be separately ratable.
⚠Not connecting testicular conditions to service — injuries, infections, chemical/radiation exposure, or undescended testes diagnosed during service should be documented.
⚠Not reporting the full impact of hormone replacement therapy — side effects of TRT and the need for lifelong monitoring should be in your medical records.
