An abnormal bulging or enlargement of the aorta in the chest. Can result from hypertension, connective tissue disorders, or trauma sustained during military service. The VA rates thoracic aortic aneurysm based on size, whether surgical repair has been performed, and residual cardiac or vascular dysfunction.
The VA rates this condition based on objective clinical measurements and test results. The examiner will use standardized tests or lab values to determine the severity of your condition rather than relying primarily on subjective symptom reports.
