Complete stiffening or fusion of the knee joint so that it cannot bend or straighten. Ankylosis means the joint is permanently fixed in one position. The VA rates knee ankylosis based on the angle at which the knee is fixed and whether the position is favorable or unfavorable for function.
The VA rates this condition based on objective clinical measurements and test results. The examiner will use standardized tests or lab values to determine the severity of your condition rather than relying primarily on subjective symptom reports.
