Complete fusion of one or more joints of the index (pointer) finger, where the finger is permanently fixed with no remaining motion at the affected joint(s). This significantly impairs pinch grip, typing, and fine motor tasks. The VA rates index finger ankylosis based on whether it is favorable or unfavorable and whether it is on the dominant or non-dominant hand.
The VA rates this condition based on how much it affects your ability to work and carry out daily activities. The examiner will focus on the functional limitations your condition causes, not just the diagnosis itself.
