A mucous retention cyst that forms under the tongue due to a blocked sublingual salivary gland duct. Ranulas can cause swelling under the tongue, difficulty speaking, difficulty swallowing, and interference with eating. Rated based on the frequency of recurrence and functional impact.
The VA rates this condition based on how often symptoms occur and how severe each episode is. The examiner will ask about the frequency, duration, and intensity of your episodes, as well as how they affect your ability to work.
