Chronic swelling of one or more salivary glands (parotid, submandibular, or sublingual), causing pain, difficulty eating, dry mouth, and recurrent infections. This condition can result from salivary stones, radiation exposure, autoimmune conditions, or infections contracted during military service. The VA rates it based on the severity of symptoms and treatment required.
The VA rates this condition based on the type and intensity of treatment you require. Higher ratings correspond to more aggressive treatment regimens, such as daily medication, insulin dependence, or the need for ongoing medical management.
