Complete fusion of the wrist joint, where the wrist is permanently fixed with no remaining flexion, extension, or radial/ulnar deviation. This can result from severe trauma, advanced arthritis, infection, or surgical fusion (arthrodesis). The VA rates wrist ankylosis based on the position of fixation and whether it is the dominant or non-dominant hand.
The VA rates this condition based on objective clinical measurements and test results. The examiner will use standardized tests or lab values to determine the severity of your condition rather than relying primarily on subjective symptom reports.
