The absence of the natural lens of the eye, typically resulting from cataract surgery or traumatic injury during military service. The VA assigns a fixed 30% rating per eye for aphakia, regardless of whether a prosthetic intraocular lens (IOL) has been implanted.
This condition has a fixed rating under VA regulations. Unlike most conditions, the rating does not vary based on severity. If the VA grants service connection, the rating percentage is set by regulation.
