Residual effects from cervical cancer and its treatment. The VA rates 100% during active cancer or treatment. After treatment ends, residuals such as pain, bladder dysfunction, and scarring are rated separately.

Rating Levels

You have active cervical cancer or are undergoing treatment. A mandatory 100% rating continues for six months after treatment ends, then residuals are rated.

Common Pitfalls

⚠Not requesting the mandatory 100% rating during active treatment and the six months after treatment ends. File your claim as soon as you are diagnosed.
⚠Failing to file separate claims for all treatment residuals including bladder dysfunction, bowel problems, lymphedema, sexual dysfunction, neuropathy, and vaginal stenosis from radiation.
⚠Not documenting the effects of radiation therapy on surrounding organs. Radiation to the cervix commonly causes chronic bladder and bowel problems that are separately ratable.
⚠Not connecting cervical cancer to in-service HPV exposure, immunosuppression, or delayed diagnosis due to inadequate screening during military service.
