The most common form of glaucoma, where the drainage angle of the eye remains open but the trabecular meshwork becomes less efficient at draining aqueous humor, causing elevated intraocular pressure and gradual optic nerve damage. The VA rates open-angle glaucoma based on resulting visual acuity loss and visual field impairment, with a minimum 10% rating when continuous medication is required.
The VA rates this condition based on objective clinical measurements and test results. The examiner will use standardized tests or lab values to determine the severity of your condition rather than relying primarily on subjective symptom reports.
