Obstructive Sleep Apnea — C&P Exam Preparation

Sleep Apnea DBQ~20-30 minutes

A condition where breathing repeatedly stops and starts during sleep. The VA rates sleep apnea primarily based on what treatment you require — the key threshold is whether you use a CPAP machine.

The examiner will review your sleep study results and ask about your current symptoms and treatment.
You will be asked whether you use a CPAP machine and how often — this is the key factor for a 50% rating.
The examiner will ask about daytime sleepiness, snoring, and witnessed breathing pauses during sleep.
This is primarily a records review with an interview — there is no physical breathing test during the exam.
You may be asked about how sleep apnea affects your daily functioning, work, and driving safety.
